A family history to discover, experience and share.
It took more than thirty years of imagination, audacity and work to Alain and Nicole to build an idyllic world with the help of their three daughters - Leïla, Myriam and Sonia.
In 1980, the couple bought an old farm surrounded by large fields and moved in along with the family. At the time, Alain was a woodcarver, he made furnitures which Nicole would then decorate. During their free time, they both restored their farmhouse and started to create a first garden, for the family’s own use. They had a lot of original ideas in mind. Alain started to build architectural gardens by creating turrets, arches, galleries, ponds and fountains... The whole family put a lot of energy into this “nonstandard” construction work. During a ten-years-period, they worked in an empirical and spontaneous way.
The gardens quickly became intriguing and appealing, so Alain and Nicole decided to open their doors to visitors in 1994 and called their gardens “Secret Gardens”. Success was immediate.
Since then, the Secret Gardens have become a touristic destination and now welcome between 30,000 and 34,000 visitors from April to October.
Nicole and Alain still continue their adventure, creating and improving new spaces every year, also Myriam is now the manager, with the help of Sonia for the communication and Leïla for artistic activities. Now, we can wonder if the eight grandchildren of Alain and Nicole will carry on this beautiful story made of passion and persistence, initiated by their grandparents in 1980... !!
